Steve Smith , M.D.

Dr. Steven Smith is a clinical endocrinologist with a special interest in body weight regulation and diabetes. He is a native of Texas. He completed his undergraduate work at the University of Texas at Arlington; his medical training at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio; Internal Medicine at Baylor university Medical Center in Dallas; and a fellowship in Endocrinology at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans. Areas of special interest include the following: how individuals differ in their ability to adapt to high fat diets; subtyping obesity using microarray technology; pharmacogenomics of obesity therapy; activation of thermogenic systems by the neuroeptide CRH; and UCP-1 induction in vivo and in vitro. These studies utilize both clinical and molecular tools, as well as
tools from the emerging field of bioinformatics.
